To introduce ourselves, my name is Seru and I am one part of Resinate by Seronia. My other half is my younger sister Sonia.
We came up with the name Seronia by mashing our names together, easy right!
We began our resin journey during the covid lockdowns. As many others, we had a lot of time on our hands and thought, what can we do to keep busy. We discovered the craft of resin! Our first few home projects included bookmarks, keychains and coasters. We made these for family and friends for fun but were told that they looked amazing and are so customized which is hard to find. A few good comments and a push to put them on sale had us looking towards instagram and similar businesses. At that time, resin was fairly new and not mainstream. With barely anyone making the same things as us in our area we took the leap and started an instagram page and took on orders. By that time we felt confident after all the trial and error we had done during the hours we spent at home.
Then we had a friend who got married! She had seen some reels of flowers being preserved in resin and she sent it our way. We thought oh this looks easy. We can do it and oh boy were we wrong on it being easy!! It took quite some time for us to figure out all the little bits that go into preserving flowers in resin. It was not as easy as it looked for sure but as we practised, we became better. Don’t worry, this was all done on trial flowers before we even considered taking on any orders. After we felt comfortable enough to take on orders, it just kept going from there into more flower preservation orders. Keychains, bookmarks and coasters went from artsy and simple to being keepsakes made from flowers that meant something to someone and we could feel how much it meant at pick ups especially. We’ve met newly weds and those that have lost someone dear to them, tear out at seeing their orders and at that point we knew we found our niche. We became a part of their story by preserving their memories within their keepsake and we hope to become a part of yours as well.
Now 4 years later, we have ample experience in preserving flowers and many other small inclusions. In a way, it feels like it was meant to be. The way we have loved flowers and gardening throughout spring and summer and always having a DIY/crafty side to both of us. Although Sonia does tend to enjoy making the functional pieces, while I, Seru, love making blocks and hexagons.
Our small business is made up of just us 2, creating your beautiful keepsakes. We hope to one day take this further into a full-time business but for now, we both work on it part-time.
A little bit more about us as individuals:
Sonia works full-time in the HR department within her company. When she's not doing interviews and contract work, she enjoys washing her car, catching up on her show, shopping, spending time outdoors and with family. She is the busy body out of us both and likes to stay on the go. She does handle flower drying and some of our order pick ups so you’ll get a chance to meet her then!
Seru is a full-time finance manager at a manufacturing company. She wears many hats in her field and with her experience, handles the admin work for our small business. She enjoys reading (big HP and romantasy fan here), cooking, spending time with family and dabbles a bit in writing here and there.
Although we both work full-time, we dedicate our weeknights and some weekends to Resinate by Seronia. This is one of the reasons we have extended turnaround times. If you’ve read this far, we hope you are comfortable with us and trust us to create your keepsake.
Now you must be wondering why it matters to know a bit of background on us. We want to make sure we are the right fit for your flower preservation needs.
Are we the right fit?
For us to provide you with the best possible service we can, we want you to know what to expect.
Resin requires a lot of patience and can not be rushed. If you are looking for a quick turnaround time and multiple updates and quick replies, we might not be the artists for you. Communication is provided at each step of the process. If you do send us an email for an update, please keep in mind, if there is no update for your order, you might not receive a response till we are on the next step. We have outlined the steps below for you.
Why is this the case? When we receive an email for an order update, we pull up your order confirmation, check which items you have ordered and the status. This process takes time away from us working on orders within the weeknights and weekends that we do.
Our turnaround time is around 6 months or more to accommodate delays that can happen. Our process guideline is tentative and the steps in between may take longer. Delays can occur due to the weather. I know it's odd that weather has such an effect on resin but it really does. On hot and humid days, we are unable to pour, humidity and resin do not go well together. Neither do cold or really hot days. Our studio room temperature is controlled to help regulate it but sometimes the weather conditions make it tough to keep them within the right working protocols.
You must be wondering why bother with resin then. Well it's something we both really enjoy doing and we do it more so for the love of the art.
